Japanese internment in World War II

Causes: racism, fear, and government involvement.

Effects: fear, forced military enrollment, family separation (in Canada), loss of american japanese citizens, and government paid reparations.

The things that happened to Japanese or foreign people during World War II were terrible.  Some of the causes of those terrible things were caused by fear and government involvement such as the president signing orders and agreeing to these abominations.  If other people had spoken up and had not been in such debilitating terror.  In Canada families were separated and sent to different places, men to work on rail lines and women and children to live in British Columbian towns.

Tanner and his siblings go through a dramatic change in this book.  Tanner is first introduced into Gladstone Shoe Store when he and his siblings are trying to steal a pair of shoes.  Later in the book, Tanner tries to steal another pair of shoes.  By the end of the book Tanner is a reformed young man and not like he was when he first walked into the store.  I feel like Tanner wanted to be good from the beginning but he was going through such a tough time and he was the sole provider for all three kids even though he was just a teenager.  Pressure is a leading cause of trouble and inner goodness is the key to change.

In New Moon, Edward says that he does not believe that he has a soul.  Bella however, is not convinced of this fact.  I think that Edward's non-faith is quite sad; I agree with Carslile because Edward is such a good vampire that there has to be more for him than just a pathetic life on earth.  He must have a soul because he gave it to Bella which changed him so completely that if he didn't have a soul he would not have been affected at all.  Edward totally has a soul.

Women have been given the right to suffrage in 1920 due to the 19th amendment of the constitution.  The first woman president of the Republic of Finland was Tarja Halonen of Finland.  She is currently the president of Finland and she is a very good president.  She was first elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2006.  Her term ends in 2012.  Each term of the president of the Republic of Finland lasts for 6 years.  She does not look like Conan O'Brien.

While reading Twilight, I found a culture different than mine. This culture is none other than vampire culture. Vampires live differently than normal people. For example, Edward's family is more open than most with his mind-reading and Alice's visions. Yet another example is that of the lives of James and Victoria. James and Victoria live differently in that they are constantly on the move and rarely stay in the same place. James and Victoria are also staggeringly different than us because they drink blood. By putting two very different families like that of Edward's and that of James' it brings up ideas like different cultures even within our own culture. It brings up that maybe each family has a different culture of its own. That there are millions of cultures out there waiting to be recognized.

In Twilight, Edward has trouble resisting Bella's blood. He finds her fascinating and he was also trying to protect his family in the beginning. But Bella never loses her charm and Edward is never cured of the burning thirst that Bella's blood induces. He is tormented but also pleased when he is around her. By having Edward face such a tremendous challenge, Meyer is saying that overcoming challenges comes with great rewards and your own strength is enough to pull you through anything.
